Ever since Sutton East opened over 25 years ago, the emphasis on quality instruction has been overseen by Dr. Tony Scolnick. Dr. Scolnick is a certified USPTR tennis professional, who holds a Masters and Doctorate degree in Physical Education from Springfield College. As an undergraduate at Amherst College, he was a four-year letter winner in tennis, basketball, and in soccer, where he was voted to the coaches “All America” squad. At graduation he was awarded the coveted “Sphinx Spoon,” an honor given to the senior athlete who has garnered the most publicity for the college through participation in sports. A former collegiate athletic director, varsity tennis, basketball, and soccer coach, Dr. Scolnick has been a managing partner and tennis director at Sutton East since its inception in 1979.
The club is operated on NYC Parks property under a license agreement with the NYC Parks and Recreation Department. |
