FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

QUESTION: Where is Sutton East located?  

ANSWER:  The entrance to Sutton East is located on York Avenue between 59th & 60th Streets, just under the Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge, in the Sutton Place neighborhood of Manhattan.  There is a revolving door with a green canopy.

QUESTION: What kind of courts do you have?  Indoors or outdoors?

ANSWER: All Tennis in Manhattan courts are indoors.  We have 8 red clay courts at Sutton East.  There are 6 doubles courts and two singles courts.  The singles courts are often used for lessons and are fine for singles play.  

QUESTION:  Does Sutton East have locker rooms?

ANSWER:  Yes, Sutton East has men's and women's locker rooms with showers and lockers.  Lockers are for use only during the time of your reservation.  We do not provide locks, but feel free to bring your own.  There is also a coat rack on the deck and chairs courtside, so you can certainly take your bags, etc., to the court with you.

QUESTION:  Do you have towels for customer use? How about demo rackets?

ANSWER:   Yes, complimentary towels are provided for customers.  Hampers are located in both locker rooms and at the Front Desk to return towels after use.  Demo rackets cost $10 to rent and the cost can be applied to rackets, strings and clothing.  Please keep your receipt. 

QUESTION:  What hours is Sutton East open?  Pro Shop?

ANSWER:  Sutton East is open 6 am-11 pm daily from mid-September through mid-June.  We are closed during the summer, but our other two Tennis in Manhattan Clubs are open year-round.  The Pro Shop is open daily from 9 am-9 pm. 

QUESTION:  Is Sutton East closed on holidays?

ANSWER:  Generally, our holiday hours are as follows:  

Thanksgiving - 7 am-2 pm

Christmas Eve - 7 am - 5 pm

Christmas Day - Closed

New Year's Eve - 7 am- 5 pm

New Year's Day - 9 am-5 pm

We are open 6 am-11 pm every other day of the season, mid-September through mid-June, including all other holidays.  

QUESTION:  What are the qualifications of the pros at Sutton East?

ANSWER:  We have more than 40 pros onstaff at Sutton East, Vanderbilt and Yorkville Tennis Clubs. We definitely have an international staff, with pros hailing from Europe, South America, Africa, as well as, North America.  Many of our pros have played college tennis, here in the United States.  Some have played on the ATP Tour, and some have played Davis Cup for their respective countries.  We have pros who are specialists with pee wees, juniors, adults, cardio tennis, etc.

QUESTION:  Does Sutton East have a ball machine?

ANSWER:  Sutton East has a bal machine that can be rented by the hour.  We will help you set it up and make sure that you understand how to make changes in spin, height and speed.
